Geology of solitude

These are carved shapes from heavy corners of permanence, low sealings, no sealings, earthly weight eroding into stories of time. Like rocks, each coloured layer reveals different phases of accepting and longing for a home that’s momentarily set in stone.

In May 2024, I was invited to Fuerteventura, an island where time carves stories into stone and the wind whispers secrets to the sand. I felt an inspiration rooted deep in the earth. This collection emerged from that experience, echoing the symphony of jagged cliffs and the delicate dance of sharp stone. An attempt to capture resilience and erosion, shaped by the hand of time. These works tell a story of foundations and eruptions, brotherhood and love, the search for home, and the ceaseless cycles of inanimate nature in its eternal dance. It’s a humbling lesson that softness often hides within the hardest of forms.

Revisiting my journey to the island, I am filled with deep sadness paired with joyous gratitude for Fuerteventura’s violent yet gentle wind, its soil, and its sand… and of course the people who keep pouring from the sand filled cup of this achingly beautiful island.
